Practice Description:
Family clinic work, emergency room, operating room, obstetrics, monthly community visits and occasional medevacs. Minor OR procedures done by GPS and GPA.
Staff Description:
We are a collegial group of 9 family physicians (when fully staffed). The IRH is an accredited teaching hospital (affiliated with UBC) serving the town of Inuvik an additional population of 7,000 people in 7 outlying communities.

Call Arrangements:
12 hour call shifts; 1:4 to 1:9, depending on staffing. Our backup is legendary: help is only a phone call and two minutes away.
Qualifications Required:
Must be eligible to work in the NWT, CCFP preferred. IMG’s must already have a licence in another Canadian province/territory.

Additional:
We have a moderately busy emergency room with plenty of real medicine: cardiac, hepatic and renal pathology, trauma, medevacs, orthopedics and pediatrics. We also staff a family practice clinic and rotate through all these services. At times we see conditions rarely seen in southern Canada such as botulism, rabies and tuberculosis. Everyone becomes involved in public health issues. Some of us take an interest and become involved with elder/chronic care and palliative care as the occasions arise. Clinics in the seven outlying communities we serve, provide further challenges and interest.
